Wisconsin Family Caregiver Support Program – Statewide
About This Group
The Wisconsin Family Caregiver Support Program provides support groups, education, and respite resources for family caregivers across the state. Funded through the Older Americans Act and administered through Wisconsin’s Aging and Disability Resource Centers, this program recognizes the enormous contribution of family caregivers and offers them the support they need to sustain their caregiving role while maintaining their own health and well-being.
Groups Offered
- Caregiver Support Groups: Regular groups for family caregivers of older adults, available in communities throughout Wisconsin
- Alzheimer’s & Dementia Caregiver Groups: Specialized support for those caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
- Powerful Tools for Caregivers: Evidence-based 6-week education course teaching self-care strategies, stress management, and communication skills
- Stress-Busting for Family Caregivers: Structured program combining relaxation techniques with peer support
Who Can Join
Open to all Wisconsin residents who are unpaid family caregivers for older adults (age 60+), adults with disabilities, or grandparents raising grandchildren. Spousal caregivers, adult children caregivers, and other family caregivers are all welcome.
Meeting Schedule
Support groups meet on varying schedules across Wisconsin through local Aging and Disability Resource Centers. Both in-person and virtual groups are available. Call 211 or visit the website to find groups in your area.

What to Expect
Caregiver support groups provide a safe space to share the challenges and rewards of caregiving with others who truly understand. Groups may be facilitated by professionals or trained peer leaders. Participants share practical tips, emotional support, and resources. The Powerful Tools for Caregivers course follows a structured curriculum with workbook materials and skill-building exercises.
Cost & Confidentiality
All services through the Wisconsin Family Caregiver Support Program are free. Respite care may be available to allow caregivers to attend groups. Confidentiality is maintained in all group settings. The program is publicly funded through the Older Americans Act.
