About This Group

The Alaska Eating Disorders Alliance (AKEDA) Family & Friends Support Group is a free monthly meeting for the loved ones of people struggling with eating disorders. Caring for someone with an eating disorder can be confusing, frustrating, and emotionally draining. This group provides a dedicated space where family members and friends can share their experiences, learn about eating disorders, and discover effective ways to support their loved one’s recovery while taking care of themselves.

What to Expect

Monthly sessions are held virtually via Zoom and last about one hour. Facilitated discussions cover topics like understanding eating disorder behaviors, communicating with compassion without enabling, setting healthy boundaries, managing your own emotional well-being, and navigating the treatment and recovery process. The group is supportive and nonjudgmental — you’ll be among people who truly understand what you’re going through.
