About NewStory Center
NewStory Center is Rutland County’s comprehensive domestic and sexual violence service organization, providing 24/7 crisis support, emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, and support groups for survivors. Based in Rutland, NewStory Center serves individuals and families affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking with trauma-informed, survivor-centered services delivered by trained advocates and licensed counselors.
What Groups Are Offered?
NewStory Center offers support groups for adult survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault survivor support groups, safety planning workshops, and psychoeducational programming on understanding abuse dynamics, healthy relationships, and rebuilding self-sufficiency. Individual counseling and legal advocacy complement group services. Children’s programming provides age-appropriate support for young people impacted by family violence.
Who Can Join?
Services are available to any person experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, or human trafficking in Rutland County and surrounding areas. You do not need to be a shelter resident to access support groups, counseling, or advocacy. Services are provided regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, immigration status, or income level.
Meeting Schedule & Location
Support groups meet on regular schedules at NewStory Center’s Rutland offices and community partner locations. Specific group schedules and locations are shared during intake to protect participant safety. The 24/7 crisis hotline is always available.

What to Expect
When you contact NewStory Center, a trained advocate will listen, provide safety planning support, and connect you with services that match your needs. Support groups offer a confidential, supportive space where survivors share experiences, process emotions, and build coping skills. All interactions are survivor-directed—you decide the pace and scope of services. Advocates also help with protective orders, court accompaniment, housing, and accessing community resources.

All services are provided free of charge. Strict confidentiality is maintained in accordance with Vermont state law and federal VAWA regulations. Shelter locations are confidential and all client information is protected.
