Pathways Trauma & Recovery Center — First Responder & Healthcare Worker Resilience Group (Portland, OR)
About This Group
The First Responder & Healthcare Worker Resilience Group at Pathways Trauma & Recovery Center is a confidential, clinician-led group designed for the unique mental health needs of people who serve on the front lines — including firefighters, paramedics, police officers, ER nurses, physicians, and other emergency and healthcare professionals. Pathways understands that these professionals face repeated exposure to traumatic events, moral injury, compassion fatigue, and a culture that often stigmatizes seeking help. This group provides a space where frontline workers can be honest about the toll of their work without fear of judgment or career consequences.
What to Expect
This group meets weekly for 90-minute sessions. The group integrates trauma processing, burnout prevention, moral injury repair, and peer connection in a format designed for professionals who are used to giving care but rarely receive it. Sessions address vicarious trauma, cumulative stress, sleep disruption, hypervigilance, relationship strain, substance use as coping, and the challenge of separating work identity from personal identity. Somatic experiencing and mindfulness techniques help participants reconnect with their bodies and nervous systems after years of operating in survival mode.
Who It’s For
First responders (firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, police officers, dispatchers) and healthcare workers (nurses, physicians, therapists, social workers) who are experiencing burnout, compassion fatigue, PTSD, moral injury, or the cumulative effects of frontline service. Confidentiality is strictly maintained.
