About This Group
Providence Hospice Alaska offers free bereavement support groups for individuals grieving the death of a loved one. These professionally facilitated 8-week groups provide a structured, compassionate environment where participants can process their grief, learn about the grieving process, and connect with others who understand the pain of loss. Providence’s bereavement program provides up to 12 months of follow-up support after a loss.
What to Expect
Sessions are facilitated by trained bereavement counselors and follow the “Understanding Your Grief” model. Over eight weeks, participants explore topics like the emotions of grief, the tasks of mourning, self-care during loss, and finding meaning after death. The group combines education with open sharing in a warm, supportive setting. Individual grief counseling and telephone support are also available between group sessions.

Providence Hospice Alaska is part of the Providence Health System and provides hospice care and bereavement services to families throughout the Anchorage area. Their bereavement program recognizes that grief doesn’t end when hospice care does, and offers ongoing support to help families heal.
