SMART Recovery (Self-Management and Recovery Training) maintains over 65 meeting locations in the Chicagoland area and across Illinois, offering a secular, evidence-based alternative to traditional 12-step recovery programs. SMART Recovery uses cognitive-behavioral approaches to help participants build motivation, cope with urges, manage behaviors, and maintain a balanced life in recovery.
What to Expect
SMART Recovery meetings follow the structured 4-Point Program: Building and Maintaining Motivation, Coping with Urges, Managing Thoughts and Behaviors, and Living a Balanced Life. Meetings are facilitated using evidence-based tools from cognitive-behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. Unlike 12-step programs, SMART Recovery is secular and emphasizes self-empowerment. Both in-person and online meeting options are available. Meetings are free (donations accepted) and welcome newcomers at any session.
