About NAMI Greater Wheeling

NAMI Greater Wheeling is a local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness serving the northern panhandle of West Virginia. Based in Wheeling, the chapter provides free peer-led support groups, education programs, and mental health advocacy for individuals and families affected by mental illness in the Ohio Valley region. NAMI Greater Wheeling works to reduce stigma and connect community members with vital mental health resources.

What Groups Are Offered?

NAMI Greater Wheeling offers NAMI Connection Recovery Support Groups for adults living with mental health conditions and NAMI Family Support Groups for family members and caregivers. Educational programs such as Family-to-Family and Peer-to-Peer are offered periodically. All groups are facilitated by trained volunteers with personal lived experience with mental illness.

Who Can Join?

Programs are open to anyone affected by mental health conditions in the Wheeling area and northern panhandle. Connection groups welcome adults (18+) with mental health conditions; Family groups serve loved ones and caregivers. No diagnosis, referral, or insurance is required.

What to Expect

NAMI support groups are structured, confidential peer gatherings lasting 60–90 minutes. Trained facilitators guide supportive discussions where participants share experiences and coping strategies. There is no pressure to speak. New attendees are warmly welcomed.
