Actively Moving Forward - HealGrief - Free Virtual Grief Groups

HealGrief, the national nonprofit behind the Actively Moving Forward (AMF) program, built its virtual support community around a simple conviction: grief is often isolating, but it doesn’t have to be. Through the AMF app, HealGrief connects grieving people to free virtual support groups regardless of whether good local services exist where they live.

What to Expect

Virtual support groups meet by video and are free to all registered AMF app community members. Two tracks keep the conversation age-relevant: one set of groups for young adults ages 18 to 30 — a group too often overlooked in bereavement care — and another for adults over 30. Inside the app community, members also find peer connection between meetings, so support doesn’t end when the group call does.

Who This Group Is For

Anyone grieving a death is welcome — the loss of a parent, sibling, partner, friend, or anyone close. The young adult track is especially valuable for college students and twenty-somethings grieving while their peers’ lives move on around them. Because everything is virtual, the groups serve people across the United States.

Why Peer Support Works

Grieving young adults frequently say the hardest part is feeling like the only one — the only one in the dorm, the office, the friend group who has lost someone. Age-matched peer groups dissolve that isolation. It’s time to be heard, feel understood, and connect with others who understand your journey, as HealGrief puts it. Hearing your own experience reflected back by peers does real therapeutic work: it normalizes grief reactions, reduces loneliness, and builds connections that carry forward.

How to Join

Groups are free. Register as an AMF app community member through the HealGrief virtual support page — choose the young adult (18-30) or adult (30+) registration — then sign up for groups inside the app. Questions can go to Admin@HealGrief.org.
