Abramson Senior Care — Free Caregiver Support Groups in Philadelphia, PA
Enrolling now

Abramson Senior Care is a long-running Philadelphia-area nonprofit serving older adults and family caregivers across the city and surrounding suburbs. Abramson offers free monthly caregiver and bereavement support groups across the region — a place for family members to talk with others in similar situations, learn coping strategies, and feel less alone in the work of caring for an older loved one.

What to Expect

Abramson’s free monthly caregiver support groups meet at sites across the Philadelphia metro and online. Sessions are facilitated by trained Abramson staff — many of them social workers with deep experience supporting aging families. The format is confidential and peer-driven: members share what’s coming up for them, the group listens, and conversation moves toward practical exchange. Abramson also offers bereavement support groups specifically for caregivers whose loved one has died, recognizing that the grief stage of caregiving deserves its own dedicated space. The groups complement Abramson’s broader senior care services — adult day, in-home care, and skilled nursing — so families can build a layered support network.

Who This Group Is For

The groups serve family caregivers across the Philadelphia region — adult children, spouses, partners, siblings, and friends caring for an older adult. Members come from Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties, and the virtual format extends reach beyond the immediate region. The bereavement groups serve caregivers post-loss, when the work of caregiving ends but the grief continues.

Why Peer Support Works

Family caregiving in the Philadelphia region often involves multiple family members spread across the metro, a parent moving through multiple care settings, and the slow accumulation of small decisions that no one else fully sees. A monthly support group gives caregivers a named place to talk about all of it — and to hear from others who’ve made similar decisions. The bereavement track recognizes that the grief after a long caregiving relationship can be complicated and is often eased by sitting with others who’ve walked the same road.
