About This Group

National Black Deaf Advocates (NBDA) was formed in 1982 after six founding members recognized that Black Deaf and Hard of Hearing Americans were not adequately represented in leadership and policy decisions affecting their lives. More than 40 years later, NBDA remains the official advocacy organization for thousands of Black Deaf and Hard of Hearing people, with more than 30 local chapters across the country.

Ways to Find Support

NBDA membership brings together Black Deaf and Hard of Hearing people, parents of Black Deaf and Hard of Hearing children, and interested people of any race or hearing status, including deaf-blind individuals, into a community built around leadership, education, and mutual support. Programs include a Senior Citizen Program that builds a support network for Black Deaf seniors, a Collegiate Black Deaf Student Leadership Institute, a Youth Empowerment Summit, and the Black Deaf Womxn’s Development Foundation. Even in states without a local chapter, NBDA’s national programs, eNews, and community are open to members.

Who This Is For

Black Deaf and Hard of Hearing people of any age, including those who are deaf-blind, plus parents of Black Deaf and Hard of Hearing children, anywhere in the U.S. including Colorado.
