CIL — Free Disability & Caregiver Peer Groups in Greeley, CO
Connections for Independent Living (CIL) in Greeley runs free monthly peer support groups for adults living with disabilities, chronic illness, and brain injury — and welcomes the family members and caregivers who walk alongside them. Connections has been part of the Northern Colorado community for decades and serves Weld County and surrounding areas with advocacy, independent-living assistance, and a roster of in-person and hybrid peer support groups that prioritize self-determination and lived experience.
What to Expect
Each month, CIL hosts several distinct peer support groups, all free to participants. The Brain Injury Group of Greeley meets the second Wednesday from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the Greeley office and offers information and support for individuals who have experienced a brain injury, stroke, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, or any other type of brain injury — caregivers are explicitly welcome. The Connections Community Circle meets the last Wednesday of the month from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. as an informal in-person gathering where people with disabling conditions socialize, do crafts, and choose their own conversation topics. The Employment Group meets the first and third Wednesday from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. and pairs peer support with practical job-readiness skills. Knowledgeable CIL staff coordinate the groups, but members guide the conversation.
Who This Group Is For
CIL’s groups are designed for adults living with disabilities or chronic conditions and the people who care for them. The Brain Injury Group is a strong fit for caregivers of someone with a brain injury, stroke, or dementia who want to be in a room with others who know the territory. The Community Circle is for the person with the disability or chronic condition themselves. The Employment Group serves anyone with a disability who’s working toward a job or career change. Translation and accessibility accommodations are available — CIL is a disability-led organization built for the community it serves.
Why Peer Support Works
Living with a disability or supporting someone who is means navigating a world that wasn’t designed for you. Peer support groups led by people with shared experience bypass the explaining-from-scratch problem. Members swap workarounds, share advocacy strategies, name barriers honestly, and laugh together about the absurdities that outsiders often miss. Over time, the group becomes a network — people who will pick up the phone, point you toward a resource, or just let you vent on a hard week.
