Free Bipolar & Mood Peer Support — Virtual GA | DBSA Atlanta

DBSA Metro Atlanta is the local chapter of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, offering free, peer-led support groups for anyone managing a mood disorder like bipolar disorder or depression. Alongside in-person groups in Dunwoody, Emory, and Marietta, DBSA Metro Atlanta runs a virtual Zoom Group that makes it possible to join from anywhere in the state.

What to Expect
The Zoom Group meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month from 6:45 to 8:00 PM. Like all DBSA groups, it’s peer-led — meaning the people facilitating have lived experience with mood disorders themselves, not just clinical training. Members share what’s actually working (and what isn’t) in managing symptoms, medication, and daily life, using DBSA’s national peer-support model. Because it’s remote, you can participate from home, which is often easier during a low-energy or high-anxiety stretch than getting to an in-person meeting.

Who This Group Is For
The group welcomes anyone in the Atlanta area — or anywhere in Georgia, given the virtual format — living with depression, bipolar disorder, or another mood disorder. DBSA’s model also explicitly makes room for family members, caregivers, and friends who want to better understand what a loved one is going through, and DBSA nationally offers specialized groups for teens, young adults, veterans, people of color, and caregivers if this chapter’s timing doesn’t fit.

Why Peer Support Works
Mood disorders often come with a specific kind of isolation — friends and family may not understand mood cycling, and clinical appointments don’t always leave room for the day-to-day reality of living with the condition. DBSA’s peer-led model puts people managing the same diagnosis in the room together, which tends to surface more honest, practical conversation about coping strategies than a purely educational setting can.

How to Join
The group is completely free. You must register in advance to attend — registration links are shared exclusively through DBSA Metro Atlanta’s email list.
