Free LGBTQ+ Peer Support Group Austin, TX | PFLAG Austin

PFLAG Austin runs free, peer-led support meetings for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families, partners, and friends in the Austin area. As an affiliate of the national PFLAG network, the chapter has been holding regular sharing-circle meetings in Austin for years and remains entirely free, confidential, and welcoming to anyone navigating identity, coming out, family change, transition, or simply looking for a community of people who understand. New attendees can join any meeting without registering in advance.

What to Expect

PFLAG Austin holds in-person meetings in a classic sharing-circle format. Attendees arrive at 6:45 p.m. for a 7:00 p.m. start, with discussion ending around 8:30 p.m. One of the regular meeting locations is Faith Presbyterian Church, 1314 E Oltorf Street, Austin, TX 78704. The chapter also holds meetings at additional locations across the metro — the schedule is posted at pflagaustin.org/meetings. Each meeting opens with confidentiality guidelines, then moves into a sharing circle where members take turns raising questions, telling stories, or naming what they are sitting with. You may participate or simply observe; both are welcomed. There is no curriculum, no fee, and no expectation that you say anything before you are ready.

Who This Group Is For

LGBTQ+ adults and their loved ones — parents, siblings, partners, adult children, chosen family, friends. PFLAG’s name itself reflects this dual focus: it is a place where queer people, trans people, and the people who love them can be in the same room and learn from one another’s experience. The chapter is open to people newly questioning their identity, decades-out community members, and family members at every stage of understanding. Allies are welcome.

Why Peer Support Works

PFLAG was founded in 1973 specifically because parents of LGBTQ+ children needed a place to talk to other parents — and because LGBTQ+ people needed to know their families were not alone. Five decades later the same need persists. A sharing circle of people who understand from lived experience tends to do something that information alone cannot: it lowers the volume on shame and gives members real strategies, in real language, from people walking the same road.

How to Join

Meetings are free and drop-in friendly; no registration is required. For the current schedule of meeting times and locations, including the Faith Presbyterian Church location and any newer satellite locations, visit pflagaustin.org/meetings.
