Free SMART Recovery Addiction Peer Group — Nashville | SMART Recovery

SMART Recovery (Self-Management And Recovery Training) is a free, peer-facilitated, science-based mutual support program for people working through addictive behaviors. Multiple Nashville-area SMART meetings appear on the national SMART Recovery meeting finder, alongside a 24/7 catalog of online meetings.

What to Expect

One-hour to 90-minute meetings built around SMART’s 4-Point Program: building motivation, coping with urges, managing thoughts/feelings/behaviors, and living a balanced life. Meetings use cognitive-behavioral tools and rational-emotive techniques. No higher power required, no labels (such as “addict” or “alcoholic”) used, and no sponsorship requirement.

The national SMART Recovery online meeting catalog runs 24/7 across time zones and includes specialty meetings (LGBTQ+, women, family & friends, agnostic, military, and others). All meetings are free and welcome drop-ins.

Who This Group Is For

Adults working through alcohol use, drug use, gambling, problematic eating, smoking, or any other addictive behavior. People at any stage — considering change, early recovery, or sustained recovery. Family and friends of someone with addiction are welcome at SMART Family & Friends meetings (listed separately on the meeting finder).

Why Peer Support Works

SMART meetings combine peer connection with evidence-based cognitive-behavioral tools, giving attendees both community and concrete skills. The approach is non-religious, non-spiritual, and emphasizes self-empowerment over powerlessness — which makes SMART a good fit for people who have found that 12-step language does not resonate with them.
