SMART Recovery — Free SMART Recovery Addiction Peer Group — Tampa
SMART Recovery (Self-Management And Recovery Training) is a free, peer-facilitated, science-based mutual support program for people working through addictive behaviors. The Tampa meetings are listed in the SMART Recovery national meeting directory and run by trained volunteers.
What to Expect
One-hour facilitated meetings built around SMART’s 4-Point Program: building motivation, coping with urges, managing thoughts/feelings/behaviors, and living a balanced life. Meetings use practical tools and cognitive-behavioral techniques. No higher power required. No labels (such as “addict” or “alcoholic”) used.
Meeting Schedule
Wednesdays 6:30–7:30 PM at Sophros Recovery, 10500 University Center Dr., Suite 215, Tampa, FL 33612 (back building of the complex). Mondays 11:00 AM–12:00 PM at Tampa Crossroads Non-Residential Building, 5120 N. Nebraska Ave., Tampa, FL 33603. Snacks provided at Sophros.
Who This Group Is For
Adults (18+) working through alcohol use, drug use, or other addictive behaviors. People at any stage of recovery — early, sustained, considering change. Family and friends of someone with an addiction can attend SMART Family & Friends meetings (listed separately on smartrecovery.org).
Why Peer Support Works
SMART meetings combine peer connection with evidence-based tools, giving attendees both community and concrete skills. Many people use SMART alongside or instead of 12-step programs; the approach is non-religious and emphasizes self-empowerment.
How to Join
Just walk in to any meeting. No registration, dues, or intake. Visit meetings.smartrecovery.org to confirm the current schedule and find virtual meetings if you cannot attend in person.
