Cornerstone — Free Suicide Loss Survivors Group Cleveland
Cornerstone of Hope’s Survivors of Suicide Loss specialty group offers free monthly peer support for adults in the Cleveland area who have lost a loved one to suicide. Cornerstone is a Northeast Ohio grief center serving Cuyahoga County and surrounding communities, and its survivor-focused approach brings together peer support, shared experience, and practical resources in a setting that is both warm and intentionally unhurried. The center has been supporting bereaved families across Cleveland for over twenty years.
What to Expect
The Suicide Loss Survivors group meets monthly at Cornerstone of Hope, 5905 Brecksville Road, Independence, OH 44131 (just south of Cleveland and easily accessible from across the metro). The specialty group follows a peer support format with shared check-ins, open conversation, and time for whatever members need to bring. Meetings are facilitated by trained Cornerstone staff and volunteers, many of whom are themselves loss survivors. Cornerstone also runs other specialty groups on the 2nd and 4th Mondays and the 3rd Monday of each month at 6:00–7:30 p.m., so confirm the suicide loss group’s exact date when you register. Sessions typically run 90 minutes.
Who This Group Is For
Adults 18 and older who have lost a spouse, partner, parent, child, sibling, friend, or other loved one to suicide. The loss can be recent or many years past; both newly bereaved members and long-term attendees are welcome in the same room. Cornerstone of Hope’s Compassionate Care Program ensures that cost is never a barrier — no one is turned away for inability to pay, and the specialty groups themselves are free. The center also runs separate groups for children and teens grieving the same kind of loss.
Why Peer Support Works
Suicide loss is uniquely hard to carry. Stigma, unanswered questions, complicated feelings about the person who died, and the silence of people who do not know what to say can all extend the isolation of grief. A peer group of other survivors is often the first place people feel they can speak honestly without softening the story. Cornerstone’s model pairs that peer connection with practical grief education, which is what many survivors find they need in roughly that order.
