Free Suicide Loss Survivors Peer Group San Antonio | SOLOS
SOLOS (Survivors of Loved Ones’ Suicide) is a free, peer-led, non-denominational support group in San Antonio for adults grieving the death of a loved one to suicide. Run entirely by and for survivors and hosted at the Ecumenical Center for Religion and Health, SOLOS has been a steady fixture in San Antonio’s grief landscape for years and welcomes anyone touched by suicide loss — family, friend, partner, coworker. The group is not affiliated with any religion despite its host venue.
What to Expect
SOLOS meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday evening of each month from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ecumenical Center for Religion and Health, 8310 Ewing Halsell Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78229. Sessions are facilitated by peers — fellow survivors who have done their own work and are trained to hold the space. The format is confidential peer sharing with a check-in round, open conversation, and a brief grounding close. There is no curriculum, no clergy involvement (despite the host venue), and no requirement to identify with any faith tradition. New members are welcomed without paperwork; you simply arrive. The room is intentionally calm with quiet lighting and seating arranged to encourage conversation.
Who This Group Is For
Adults 18 and older grieving the death of a family member, friend, partner, coworker, or other loved one to suicide. The loss can be recent or many years past; both newly bereaved members and long-term attendees are welcome in the same room. SOLOS is intentionally non-denominational and serves grievers from every faith background and none. Members come from across the San Antonio metro and from surrounding South Texas communities.
Why Peer Support Works
Suicide loss carries layers other griefs do not — stigma, unanswered questions, complicated feelings about the person who died, and the silence of people who do not know what to say. Being in a peer room of other survivors is often the first place people feel they can speak openly without softening the story. SOLOS members consistently describe the group as where they finally exhaled. Many attend for years; others come for a season and move on.
