Grief Groups & Workshops - Chesapeake Life Center - Free, Maryland

The Chesapeake Life Center, the grief care arm of Hospice of the Chesapeake, serves grievers across Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, and Prince George’s counties in Maryland with one of the region’s fullest calendars of bereavement programming — most of it free, much of it drop-in.

What to Expect

The center maintains a rolling events calendar of in-person and virtual groups and workshops for adults and children. Recent and recurring offerings include drop-in grief support groups at community sites like the Calvert Pines Senior Center, a loss-of-a-parent support group, a virtual book club, nature-informed therapy for children, one-day retreats for grievers and caregivers, and culturally specific circles such as a grief support group for grievers in Asian and Pacific Islander cultures. Many groups require no registration at all — you can simply show up.

Who This Group Is For

Adults, children, and families in southern Maryland grieving a death. Hospice of the Chesapeake is committed to serving all regardless of ability to pay, and grief programs are open to the community — not just hospice families.

Why Peer Support Works

Grief support works best when it meets you where you are — and a menu this varied means there’s a door for every kind of griever: the spouse who wants a weekly circle, the adult child who prefers a book club, the family that heals best outdoors. Loss-specific and culturally specific groups deepen the core ingredient of peer support: being surrounded by people who genuinely understand your particular loss.
