House of GG — Free Healing Retreats for Trans BIPOC
House of GG (Griffin-Gracy Educational Retreat & Historical Center) is a Black trans-led organization founded by activist Miss Major Griffin-Gracy — a Stonewall veteran and elder of the trans liberation movement. Based in the U.S. South, House of gg creates safe, transformative spaces where Black, Indigenous, and people of color in trans community can heal from trauma, build power, and connect with elders and peers. Programs include retreats, the Trans Generations leadership program, peer community gatherings, and ongoing support for the leadership of trans women and men of color.
What to Expect
House of gg’s flagship programs include curated retreats in rural Arkansas — multi-day gatherings where trans BIPOC community members come together for healing, leadership development, ceremony, and rest. The Trans Generations program supports intergenerational leadership building, connecting younger trans BIPOC folks with elders like Miss Major. Programming is rooted in the wisdom of trans liberation movements led by Black and Brown trans women and femmes, and prioritizes the experiences of trans community members in the U.S. South — where resources are often scarcer and pressure greater than in coastal metros.
Who This Group Is For
House of gg serves trans, gender-nonconforming, and intersex people of color in the U.S. South and beyond. Members include Black, Latine/x, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Arab/SWANA trans community members at all stages — newly out, longtime community, elders, and those carrying significant trauma. The organization centers the leadership of Black trans women in particular and creates space where younger generations can be mentored by community elders like Miss Major Griffin-Gracy.
Why Peer Support Works
Trans BIPOC community members face compounded pressures — anti-trans violence, racism, criminalization, economic precarity, and the particular weight of these realities in Southern states. Spaces led by trans BIPOC elders and peers, where the focus is healing rather than survival alone, are profoundly rare and profoundly necessary. House of gg’s retreats and leadership work create that space deliberately and at meaningful scale.
