About This Group

The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF) has provided education and support to families affected by mitochondrial disease since 1995. Mitochondrial diseases are a group of genetic conditions that affect how cells produce energy, and UMDF has built a nationwide network of ambassadors solely focused on supporting patients and families.

Ways to Find Support

UMDF hosts more than 400 support meetings a year, including virtual meetings organized by disease type, region, and age group, plus young adult happy hours and a private group for those who have lost a loved one to mitochondrial disease. A Patient Concierge can connect you directly with a local mito family or a trained Support Ambassador from UMDF’s national volunteer network. UMDF’s annual Mitochondrial Medicine Conference brings families together with top clinical specialists from around the world, and Energy for Life Walks are held in cities across the country each year, with virtual and DIY options for anywhere a walk isn’t happening nearby.
