About This Group

Cure SMA has supported families affected by spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) since 1984, growing into a community of more than 110,000 members and supporters. SMA is a genetic condition that affects the nerve cells controlling muscle movement, with several FDA-approved treatments now available.

Ways to Find Support

Cure SMA runs volunteer-led local chapters across the U.S. that provide practical advice, connect families with someone nearby who understands, and organize local education events like Summits of Strength, where families can meet their chapter leaders and connect with the local SMA community. Cure SMA also sends newly diagnosed families a care package, publishes a community newsletter, runs an equipment loan pool, and hosts the largest annual SMA conference in the world.
