The Phoenix — Free Sober Active Community (Denver, Boulder & Colorado Springs, CO)
About This Group
The Phoenix is a free, nationwide sober active community founded in Boulder, Colorado in 2006 by Scott Strode. What began as a small group of people in recovery discovering the healing power of physical activity has grown into a movement serving over one million people across all 50 states. The Phoenix operates on a radical premise: that connection and community — not isolation — are the foundation of lasting recovery. With locations in Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs, Colorado remains the heartbeat of the organization.
What to Expect
The Phoenix offers daily classes and events completely free of charge, including CrossFit, boxing, yoga, rock climbing, hiking, camping, cycling, running, skiing, snowboarding, strength training, and mindfulness. They also offer arts programming including painting, music jam sessions, and creative workshops. All necessary gear and equipment are provided, removing barriers to participation. The Denver location features a full gym and an adjacent arts building. Classes are led by trained coaches and are designed for all fitness levels — from complete beginners to experienced athletes.
Who It’s For
Anyone with 48 hours of sobriety — that’s the only requirement. The Phoenix welcomes people in recovery from any substance, those who have chosen a sober lifestyle, and family members, supporters, and allies. You do not need a specific diagnosis or to be in a formal treatment program.
