The Senior Source — Free Family Caregiver Support Groups in Dallas, TX

Enrolling now

The Senior Source is a long-running nonprofit in Greater Dallas dedicated to serving older adults and their families. Its Family Caregiver Support program offers free virtual support groups for anyone in the Dallas area caring for an older loved one — whether the situation is dementia, a recent stroke, a long-term chronic illness, or the slow needs of aging. Groups are paired with one-on-one coaching, education, and referrals to community resources, giving Dallas caregivers a single trusted point of contact for the long road of family caregiving.

What to Expect

The Senior Source’s caregiver support groups meet by video on a regular schedule. Each group is facilitated by trained staff who keep the space confidential and member-led. Sessions follow a check-in format — caregivers share what’s happening for them that week, the group listens, and conversation moves naturally toward practical exchange: how to talk to a parent about giving up the car keys, how to handle a sibling who isn’t pulling their weight, how to find paid help when budgets are tight. Members can pair group attendance with individual care consultations to address situation-specific questions in private.

Who This Group Is For

The program is built for adult family caregivers in the Dallas metro — adult children caring for aging parents, spouses supporting a partner with dementia, grandchildren stepping up for a grandparent, and friends who have become primary caregivers. There’s no income test for the support groups, and caregivers don’t need to live with their loved one to join. Many participants are juggling caregiving with full-time work and find the virtual format makes consistent attendance possible.

Why Peer Support Works

Caregiving for an older loved one often goes on for years and changes slowly. The day-to-day decisions can feel invisible — they happen at kitchen tables, in waiting rooms, late at night by phone. A regular support group makes those decisions visible and shared. Hearing other caregivers describe what they’re working on gives members both practical knowledge and the relief of being understood. The Senior Source’s combination of group support and one-on-one coaching means caregivers don’t have to choose between community and personalized help.
