About Washington Support After Suicide (WASAS)

Washington Support After Suicide (WASAS) is a program of Crisis Connections, Seattle’s crisis intervention organization. WASAS provides specialized grief support for individuals who have lost someone to suicide. The program recognizes that suicide loss carries unique challenges—including stigma, guilt, complicated grief, and unanswered questions—and offers tailored support through licensed clinician-facilitated groups, trained volunteer grief companions, and care packages for the newly bereaved.

What Groups Are Offered?

WASAS offers twice-monthly virtual support groups facilitated by licensed clinicians for people bereaved by suicide. The program also pairs newly bereaved individuals with trained volunteer grief companions—people who have themselves lost someone to suicide and can provide empathetic, one-on-one support. Care packages with comfort items and grief resources are provided to newly bereaved individuals. The program serves all of Washington State through its virtual platform.

Who Can Join?

The program serves anyone in Washington State who has lost someone to suicide—family members, friends, coworkers, classmates, or anyone affected by the loss. There is no time requirement related to when the loss occurred. Grief companions are matched based on the type of relationship lost (parent, spouse, child, sibling, friend) when possible.

Meeting Schedule & Location

Virtual support groups meet twice monthly via video conferencing, making them accessible from anywhere in Washington State. Grief companion pairings provide ongoing one-on-one support outside of group meetings.
