About This Group

Facing Foster Care in Alaska (FFCA) provides peer support, leadership development, and advocacy for current and former foster youth ages 15–24. The foster care experience can carry significant mental health impacts — including trauma, attachment challenges, anxiety, and depression — and FFCA creates a community where young people who have been through the system can support one another, develop leadership skills, and advocate for change.

What to Expect

FFCA hosts four annual leadership retreats that bring foster youth together for skill-building, peer connection, and empowerment. Between retreats, participants stay connected through a peer support network. FFCA also provides direct assistance with basic needs including housing, food, transportation, and education support. The organization is youth-led and youth-driven, meaning the young people themselves shape the programs and advocacy priorities.
