Free Bo's Place Kids & Teens Grief Peer Support — Houston, TX

Bo’s Place is a Houston-based bereavement center providing free grief support for children ages 3-18, their families, and adults grieving the death of a loved one. Founded in 1990 in memory of 7-year-old Laurence Bo Neuhaus, who died of complications from an illness, Bo’s Place has supported thousands of bereaved Houston families.

What to Expect

Bo’s Place groups follow a peer support model. Children and teens meet in age-grouped peer support circles led by trained volunteer facilitators while parents and adult caregivers meet in a concurrent adult group. The Center’s playroom, art room, and “Volcano Room” let kids express grief through play, art, and physical movement in ways that words alone may not capture.

Programs Offered

Children’s Grief Support Program (ages 3-18, biweekly evening groups). Bilingual Grief Support Program (Spanish-language groups for families). Hispanic Family Bereavement Program. Survivors of Homicide Group. Family Bereavement Groups for those experiencing the death of a child. Hospice Affiliation Program (groups in partnership with Houston hospices). School-Based Grief Support (groups offered through Houston-area schools).

Who This Is For

Houston-area children, teens, and families grieving the death of a parent, sibling, child, or other close family member. Bo’s Place serves all causes of death — illness, accident, suicide, homicide, or other. The Center is committed to serving the diversity of Houston, including dedicated bilingual programming.

Why Houston Needs Bo’s Place

Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the United States, and Bo’s Place has built its model to meet families where they are — including bilingual programming, faith-based partnerships, and outreach to schools. Free grief support for kids was virtually unavailable in Houston before Bo’s Place.
