Free Brain Tumor Peer Support — Connecticut | CTBTA
The Connecticut Brain Tumor Alliance (CTBTA), a nonprofit based in West Hartford, offers free peer support to anyone whose life has been touched by a brain tumor. Started and sustained by survivors and caregivers, CTBTA’s groups are built on real-life experience and the simple truth that no one should navigate a brain tumor diagnosis alone.
What to Expect
CTBTA hosts two peer-led groups. The Gray Ribbon Club, founded by CTBTA survivors and caregivers in 2016, offers friendship and support to anyone whose life has been affected by a brain tumor, it meets quarterly by Zoom, and in person when possible, to talk honestly about the challenges — and the unexpected meaning — of moving forward after a diagnosis. The Good Grief Group supports those who have lost a spouse or partner to a brain tumor, meeting the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. by Zoom (and in person when possible), often with guest speakers or grief specialists to help guide the conversation.
Who This Group Is For
These groups welcome brain tumor survivors, caregivers, and family members, as well as those grieving the loss of a partner or spouse to a brain tumor. You do not need to be a patient at any particular hospital to take part.
Why Peer Support Works
A brain tumor diagnosis can tilt a person’s whole world, and the people closest to them may struggle to fully understand. Leaning on others who have endured the same trials — as a survivor or as a caregiver — offers a level of understanding that is hard to find elsewhere, easing isolation and helping people feel less alone as they move forward.
How to Join
Both groups are free. To join or learn more about the Gray Ribbon Club, email grayribbon@ctbta.org, for the Good Grief Group, email goodgrief@ctbta.org. You can also reach CTBTA at (860) 264-5776 or info@ctbta.org. CTBTA is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving Connecticut.
