Tu Nidito — Free Child & Teen Grief Peer Support — Tucson, AZ

Tu Nidito Children and Family Services has spent nearly 30 years walking alongside grieving children in Tucson. The organization provides free support for children, teens, young adults and families who are impacted by the death of a loved one or by a serious medical condition in the family. In Arizona, 1 in 9 children will experience the death of a parent or sibling by age 18, and Tu Nidito exists so none of them have to carry that alone.

What to Expect

Support is provided through one-on-one and group support at Tu Nidito’s center on North Mountain Avenue. Groups bring together peers of similar ages who are living through similar losses, in a setting where it is okay to grieve, to be sad, to ask questions, to wonder, and even to smile. Families often attend together, with children and caregivers meeting in their own peer groups. As one participant shared, the group helps reset the family’s mindset in a positive way. Many programs are offered in both English and Spanish.

Who This Group Is For

Tu Nidito serves children, teens, young adults and their caregivers in the Tucson area who are grieving a death or facing a serious medical condition in the family — their own diagnosis or a parent’s or sibling’s. There is no requirement to have used hospice care, and services come at no cost to families thanks to community support. Anyone seeking support, or any professional making a referral, is welcome.

Why Peer Support Works

Grieving children often feel like the only one in their classroom or neighborhood whose person died. Sitting in a circle with other kids who get it normalizes the waves of grief, gives feelings a safe place to land, and helps families talk to each other about the loss. Peer grief support doesn’t rush anyone through a timeline — it offers a compassionate community of acceptance and understanding where each grief journey is honored as unique.
