DBSA Memphis — Free Depression & Bipolar Peer Support — Memphis
DBSA Memphis (Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance) is a free, peer-led chapter serving adults in Memphis and the surrounding mid-South who live with depression, bipolar disorder, or related mood conditions. The chapter is part of the national Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance network and is run by trained peer facilitators with their own lived experience.
What to Expect
Confidential two-hour drop-in peer support meetings where attendees share experiences, coping strategies, and recovery progress with peers living through the same conditions. The chapter follows DBSA’s national peer support model — meetings are not therapy and are not a replacement for clinical care, but they are some of the most-studied and most-recommended peer programs for mood disorders nationwide.

Who This Group Is For
Adults (18+) diagnosed with major depressive disorder, bipolar I or II, cyclothymia, persistent depressive disorder, or related mood disorders. People who suspect a mood disorder but have not yet been diagnosed are also welcome — DBSA does not diagnose, but the community supports members through clinical questions with their providers. Family members and supporters are welcome at most meetings.
Why Peer Support Works
Mood disorders make it hard to feel understood. Depression flattens motivation, bipolar swings make consistency difficult, and shame keeps many people from talking to family or friends about what they’re experiencing. Two hours in a room with peers who get it — without explanation — reduces isolation, normalizes recovery, and exposes attendees to strategies that have worked for others living the same diagnosis.
