SafeSpace — Free DV Survivor Shelters & Peer Support — Miami-Dade, FL
Miami-Dade County operates a network of certified domestic violence shelters and transitional housing — SafeSpace Empowerment Center, SafeSpace Central, SafeSpace South, SafeSpace North — plus Inn Transition South and Inn Transition North transitional housing. The SafeSpace network is run by the Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department and provides free emergency shelter, advocacy, peer support, court support, and survivor services for women, men, and children fleeing intimate partner violence and human trafficking.
What to Expect
SafeSpace shelters offer immediate safe housing for survivors and their children, plus on-site peer support groups, individual advocacy, court accompaniment, legal navigation, children’s programming, and connection to long-term housing and services. Survivor support groups bring residents and community members together in confidential settings to share experiences and learn from one another. Inn Transition programs provide longer-term transitional housing — typically up to 18-24 months — with ongoing peer community, case management, employment support, and parenting programming. The DV Helpline (305-679-0303 by text, 24/7) provides confidential intake, safety planning, and connection to SafeSpace.
Who This Group Is For
SafeSpace serves women, men, transgender survivors, and children in Miami-Dade County affected by domestic violence, sexual violence, dating violence, and human trafficking. Bilingual and multilingual programming serves Miami-Dade’s diverse population. Services are open regardless of immigration status, income, or insurance. Specialty programming addresses survivors with children, LGBTQ+ survivors, immigrant survivors, and trafficking victims.

For Miami-Dade survivors of intimate partner violence and trafficking, having county-coordinated shelter capacity combined with on-site peer support means survivors aren’t navigating multiple separate systems during one of the hardest moments of their lives. The SafeSpace peer groups give residents and community members ongoing connection with others who understand the experience from the inside — a foundation for the long work of rebuilding safety and self.
