Free KinderMourn Kids & Teens Grief Peer Support — Charlotte, NC
KinderMourn is a Charlotte-based nonprofit dedicated to helping bereaved parents, children, and teenagers cope with grief. Founded in 1979, KinderMourn provides free peer support groups, summer camps, school-based programming, and resources for the Charlotte and surrounding Carolinas community.
Programs for Kids and Teens
KinderKamp — a one-day summer day camp for children ages 6-12 who have experienced the death of a loved one. Teen Grief Support Groups — peer support for ages 13-18 who have lost a family member. KinderMourn’s Hope Floats Annual Walk brings the Charlotte grief community together each year. School-based grief support is offered through partnerships with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and surrounding districts.
Programs for Bereaved Parents
KinderMourn was founded to serve bereaved parents — parents who have experienced the death of a child of any age. Peer support groups for bereaved parents, support for fathers specifically, and support for grandparents who have lost a grandchild are all offered. These adult groups often run concurrently with the children’s programming so whole families can be served.
Who This Is For
Charlotte-area children, teens, and their families coping with the death of a loved one. KinderMourn serves all causes of death — illness, accident, suicide, overdose, homicide. Bereaved parents who have lost a child of any age are KinderMourn’s founding focus.
Why KinderMourn Matters
Charlotte has one of the most established children’s grief programs in the Southeast through KinderMourn. The organization has been refining its peer support model for over 45 years, building a community where grieving families know they are not alone.
