C4R — Free Peer Recovery Community Center Austin, TX
Communities for Recovery (C4R) operates a free, peer-supported recovery community center in Austin for adults living with substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions. Located at 4110 Guadalupe Street in central Austin, C4R has been one of the city’s primary peer recovery hubs for over fifteen years, offering weekly peer-led recovery groups, one-on-one peer recovery coaching, a drop-in Recovery Café, wellness programming, and sober social events — all entirely free and open to anyone in recovery, considering recovery, or supporting someone who is.
What to Expect
The center is at 4110 Guadalupe Street #635, Austin, TX 78751. Drop-in hours offer access to the Recovery Café with Wi-Fi, a computer lab, a career clothing closet, and quiet seating. Recurring peer-led groups include Medication-Assisted Recovery Anonymous (MARA) on Mondays and Thursdays from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and Dharma Recovery Inquiry every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The schedule also includes wellness programming such as yoga and sober social events at posted times. All facilitators are peer recovery support specialists with their own lived experience of substance use recovery; the center is intentionally non-clinical.
Who This Group Is For
Adults 18 and older in recovery from substance use, considering recovery, supporting someone in recovery, or navigating dual diagnosis (substance use plus a mental health condition). C4R does not require participants to identify with any single recovery pathway — twelve-step, medication-assisted, harm reduction, abstinence, faith-based, or anything else are all welcome. No insurance, diagnosis, or referral is needed to walk in.
Why Peer Support Works
Peer recovery support centers consistently outperform clinical-only models for long-term recovery because they offer something treatment cannot: a daily community of people in recovery, available without an appointment, free of the medical gaze. For many participants, the Recovery Café and drop-in groups are what keeps recovery a daily practice rather than an episodic event. C4R’s outcomes data tracks improved retention and reduced relapse among regular participants.
