DCRCA — Free Peer Recovery Community Center Washington, DC

Enrolling now

The DC Recovery Community Alliance (DCRCA) is Washington, D.C.’s primary peer-operated recovery center, dedicated to supporting adults impacted by substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions through entirely peer-based services. DCRCA’s Peer Operated Center offers free recovery coaching, recovery meetings, social activities, life skills support, and a steady community for people in any stage of recovery.

What to Expect

The Peer Operated Center is located at 5656A 3rd Street, Washington, D.C. Programming includes recovery support evaluation, one-on-one recovery coaching and mentoring with certified peer specialists, life skills support, “open” peer recovery meetings, recovery-oriented social activities, and spiritual support services. All services are intentionally peer-led — DCRCA’s staff and coaches are themselves in recovery from substance use, mental health conditions, or both, and the center is non-clinical by design. There is no insurance check, no diagnosis required, no fee, and no expectation that members commit to any particular pathway to recovery.

Who This Group Is For

Adults 18 and older in Washington, D.C. in recovery from substance use, considering recovery, navigating dual diagnosis (substance use plus a mental health condition), or supporting a loved one. DCRCA welcomes participants regardless of recovery pathway — twelve-step, medication-assisted, harm reduction, abstinence, faith-based, or anything else. No referral is needed to walk in or to schedule a peer coaching conversation.

Why Peer Support Works

Peer recovery centers consistently outperform clinical-only models for long-term recovery because they fill a gap traditional treatment cannot: a steady, daily community of people in recovery, available without an appointment and free of the medical gaze. DCRCA’s CARF-accredited peer programming is part of D.C.’s growing peer-led recovery infrastructure and gives participants a peer to walk alongside them through the early and middle years of recovery, when isolation is often the biggest risk to sustained change. For many participants, the Peer Operated Center becomes the first place they belong without being identified primarily by their substance use history.
