Free Weekly Anxiety Peer Support Group Dallas | MHA
Mental Health America of Greater Dallas (MHA Dallas) runs a free, weekly, peer-led Anxiety Support Group for adults in the Dallas area, along with a companion Art-Based Support Group that meets right after. Operating since 1947, MHA Dallas is one of the longest-running mental health nonprofits in North Texas and these weekly groups are intentionally low-barrier — no registration, no cost, no diagnosis required, and the doors open to anyone who needs a steady place to land. The center is centrally located on Swiss Avenue and is accessible by DART.
What to Expect
The Anxiety Support Group meets every Wednesday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at MHA Dallas, 2824 Swiss Avenue, Suite 3, Dallas, TX 75204. The Art-Based Support Group follows immediately at 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the same space and members are welcome to attend either or both. Meetings are private and open only to individuals seeking peer support. The Anxiety group focuses on reducing internal and external obstacles to daily life and on healthy mood management; conversation is grounded in shared experience. The Art-Based group, led by an AWBW Certified Facilitator, uses creative expression as a path to process repressed memories and unresolved feelings — no artistic experience is needed. There is no curriculum and no expectation that you speak before you are ready. Many members attend for weeks before sharing.
Who This Group Is For
Adults 18 and older living with generalized anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, health anxiety, work-related anxiety, or anxiety connected to a separate condition like depression or trauma. The Art-Based group additionally welcomes anyone using creative expression as part of their mental health work. Members range from people newly recognizing their symptoms to people who have been managing anxiety for decades. Both are welcomed in the same room.
Why Peer Support Works
Anxiety thrives on isolation. The internal narration of an anxious mind tends to insist that nobody else really understands and that asking for help would be a burden. A weekly room of other people living with the same kinds of thoughts is one of the few interventions that interrupts that narration directly. MHA Dallas’s groups have been refined over decades and are designed to be predictable, safe, and confidential — three things that themselves help reduce anxiety symptoms over time.
