Mission Continues — Free Veteran Peer Community Through Service
The Mission Continues is a national nonprofit that empowers veterans by connecting them with each other and with the communities they served — through ongoing service projects, peer leadership development, and Service Platoons that meet regularly in dozens of cities. Founded by Eric Greitens after his time as a Navy SEAL, The Mission Continues operates on the premise that veterans don’t just need help — they have something to offer, and that giving back through community service is one of the most effective ways for veterans to find purpose, peer connection, and well-being after the military.
What to Expect
The Mission Continues’ flagship program is the Service Platoon — a local team of veterans and supporters who meet monthly to take on community service projects, build peer relationships, and develop leadership. There are 80+ Service Platoons across U.S. cities. Veterans can also apply for the Fellowship Program — a six-month immersive opportunity to lead a service initiative full-time with stipend support. The organization runs regional and national gatherings, leadership development cohorts, and ongoing programming designed to give veterans both peer community and the structural support to lead lasting change.
Who This Group Is For
The Mission Continues welcomes post-9/11 veterans of all branches, eras, ranks, and discharge statuses, plus military family members and community supporters who want to serve alongside them. Members include veterans navigating transition, veterans years past service looking for community, veterans with service-connected disabilities, and veterans of all backgrounds and political orientations. The Service Platoon format works particularly well for veterans who appreciate having a purposeful structure for peer connection — service projects give the group something to do alongside the relationship-building.

Many veterans describe the loss of mission, team, and purpose after military service as one of the hardest transitions of their lives. The Mission Continues addresses all three at once — a clear mission (community service), a team (the Service Platoon), and a sense of continuing purpose.
