Free Brain Tumor Peer Support Group — Louisville, KY | BIAK

The Brain Tumor Support Group Network is a free, in-person peer support group hosted by the Brain Injury Alliance of Kentucky in Louisville. It was created for a group of people who often fall between categories — patients and survivors living with a brain tumor diagnosis, who face many of the same cognitive and physical changes as other brain injury survivors but rarely find a room built around their specific experience.

What to Expect The group meets on the fourth Monday of each month. Dinner is served from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m., and the support group itself runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The shared meal is deliberate: it gives people time to arrive, settle, and talk informally before the group begins, which lowers the barrier for anyone attending for the first time. Discussion is peer-driven and covers treatment side effects, cognitive and fatigue symptoms, scan anxiety, work and driving, and the practical logistics of living with an ongoing diagnosis. Care partners are welcome.

Who This Group Is For The group is for adults living with a brain tumor diagnosis — benign or malignant, in active treatment, post-treatment, or under surveillance — along with their family members and care partners, in Louisville, Jefferson County, and the surrounding region. There is no requirement to be enrolled in a particular treatment program or to have a referral, and no cost to attend.

Why Peer Support Works A brain tumor diagnosis carries a double burden: the medical uncertainty of the tumor itself, and the neurological changes that come with it or with its treatment. Both are hard to explain to people who have not lived them. Peer groups let members skip the explaining. Others in the room already know what scan-anxiety weeks feel like, what steroid side effects do to sleep and mood, and how to answer a coworker who says you look fine. That shared understanding reduces isolation and gives people a realistic, non-clinical picture of what living with the diagnosis looks like over time — something that complements, rather than substitutes for, the care of a neuro-oncology team.

How to Join The group is free and open to brain tumor patients, survivors, and their care partners. It meets on the fourth Monday of each month in Louisville, with dinner from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. and the group from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Because the meeting location and meal count are confirmed monthly, contact the Brain Injury Alliance of Kentucky before your first visit: call 502-493-0609 or email info@biak.us. BIAK’s office is at 7321 New LaGrange Road, Suite 100, Louisville, KY 40222.
