NAMI Bexar — Free Mental Health Peer Warmline San Antonio

Enrolling now

The NAMI Bexar Warm Line is a free, confidential phone and chat line staffed by peer support specialists — people with their own lived experience of mental health conditions — available to any adult in the San Antonio / Bexar County area who needs a listening ear. Operated by NAMI Greater San Antonio, the warmline is available in both English and Spanish and is intentionally non-clinical and non-crisis: it is a place to talk before things escalate, not after. The service launched as part of Bexar County’s expanding mental health infrastructure and is among the longest daily-hour warmlines in Texas.

What to Expect

Call (210) 939-9999 any day of the week from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. A peer specialist picks up and listens. There is no assessment form, no insurance check, no requirement to identify yourself, and no diagnosis required. Conversations are confidential. Peer specialists can offer support around depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, PTSD, substance use, loneliness, relationships, work stress, or whatever you are sitting with. They can also share information about NAMI Greater San Antonio’s free peer-led support groups — including NAMI Connection (for people living with mental illness), NAMI Family Support Group, and NAMI Peer-to-Peer — if a recurring group would help between calls. Live chat is also available through the NAMI-SAT website during the same hours.

Who This Group Is For

Adult residents of Bexar County and the surrounding San Antonio area experiencing mental health symptoms, substance use challenges, or simply needing to talk to someone who has been through something similar. The warmline is also open to family members and supporters trying to understand what their loved one is going through. Spanish-speaking peer specialists are available for callers who prefer Spanish — a meaningful gap-fill in a majority-Latino county.

Why Peer Support Works

For many people, calling a clinical hotline feels like a step they are not ready to take. A warmline staffed by peers offers an in-between — real human contact, real understanding, no pressure to be in crisis. Research on peer warmlines consistently shows that regular access reduces emergency room visits and 988 calls by giving people somewhere to talk before symptoms escalate. NAMI Greater San Antonio also runs 19 free programs beyond the warmline, including peer-led groups for both individuals and families.
