TPMHC — Free Perinatal Mental Health Peer Support — Tucson, AZ
The Tucson Perinatal Mental Health Coalition (TPMHC) — long known as the Tucson Postpartum Depression Coalition — is a volunteer-run Arizona 501(c)(3) dedicated to promoting maternal emotional health through education, support, and advocacy. For parents navigating postpartum depression, anxiety, or other perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), the coalition hosts and connects families to free weekly support groups in the Tucson area.
What to Expect
The Tucson Perinatal Mental Health Support Group meets virtually every Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. MST via Zoom, facilitated through the coalition; contact TPMHC by email or Instagram for the link. An in-person option meets every Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the Childbirth Education Room at St Joseph’s Hospital, facilitated by a registered nurse — no registration required, and babies in arms are welcome. Groups are warm, judgment-free spaces to talk honestly about intrusive thoughts, exhaustion, anxiety, and the realities of early parenthood.
Who This Group Is For
These groups welcome pregnant and postpartum parents in the Tucson area experiencing depression, anxiety, or simply a harder-than-expected adjustment to a new baby. You don’t need a diagnosis or a referral to attend, and partners and babies are welcome at many meetings.
Why Peer Support Works
Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders affect roughly 1 in 5 birthing parents, yet shame keeps many suffering in silence. Hearing another parent say “me too” is often the turning point. Peer support groups normalize symptoms, reduce isolation during a vulnerable season, and connect families to local resources and professional care when needed — all of which support recovery.
How to Join
All coalition-listed groups are free. For the Thursday virtual group, email information@tucsonpostpartum.com or message @tucsonpostpartum on Instagram for the Zoom link. The TPMHC website also lists additional local groups, including BIPOC and Spanish-language options.
