Sheena's Place — Free Group Support for Eating Disorders

Sheena’s Place is a warm, professionally-facilitated community offering completely free group-based support to people aged 17 and older who are affected by an eating disorder or disordered eating. Founded in 1993 and based in Toronto, Canada, Sheena’s Place has grown into one of North America’s most respected models of free eating disorder community support — and their virtual programs are now accessible to participants across North America. No diagnosis is required, and no referral is needed to register. Whether you are in the thick of recovery, newly aware of your relationship with food, or supporting someone you love, Sheena’s Place holds space for all of it.

What to Expect

Sheena’s Place offers a rotating seasonal calendar of professionally-facilitated support groups, each designed to meet participants where they are. Groups are led by trained facilitators who bring expertise in eating disorder recovery and are committed to creating a space that feels safe, non-judgmental, and genuinely supportive. Each program season (Fall, Winter, Spring) introduces a fresh calendar of groups covering different themes and approaches — from general recovery support to specialized groups focused on body image, family relationships, and identity. Virtual groups are conducted online, making them accessible to participants regardless of where they live.

Who This Group Is For

Sheena’s Place is for anyone 17 or older who is affected by an eating disorder or disordered eating — including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, orthorexia, ARFID, or any other complex relationship with food and body. You do not need a formal diagnosis to participate. Family members, partners, and loved ones of people with eating disorders are also welcomed through specific programs designed for them. Participants come from all stages of recovery — from those newly recognizing a struggle to those who have been in recovery for years.

Why Peer Support Works

Recovery from an eating disorder can be deeply isolating. When your relationship with food and your body is complicated, it can feel impossible to find people who truly understand. Peer support changes that. Sitting with others who share the experience — who know what it means to dread mealtimes or feel trapped in cycles of shame — creates a kind of belonging that is difficult to find anywhere else. Research consistently shows that peer connection reduces isolation, improves self-efficacy, and supports long-term recovery. Sheena’s Place has seen this firsthand for over three decades.

How to Join

To get started, participants are encouraged to attend one of Sheena’s Place’s monthly virtual information sessions — a free, no-pressure opportunity to learn about the group programs before registering. From there, registration opens for each seasonal program calendar. All groups are completely free of charge. Visit sheenasplace.org and click “Info Sessions” or “Programs & Registration” to get started. For questions, reach the team at info@sheenasplace.org.
