Free LGBTQ+ Elder Community & Support - Denver | West of 50
About This Group
The Center on Colfax opened in 1976 and has grown into the largest LGBTQ community center in the Rocky Mountain region. Its West of 50 program, formerly known as SAGE of the Rockies, is designed for LGBTQ+ older adults and their allies. As the Center’s director of elder services put it, the goal is “an active environment, an environment that’s active and fun,” and one of the most in-demand parts of the Center’s work given Colorado’s rapidly aging population.
Ways to Find Support
West of 50 hosts a full weekly and monthly calendar of social, educational, and support programming, including a weekly drop-in Art Group every Thursday. Through Pride Compass, the program also offers free, short-term case management for LGBTQ+ adults 50 and older, connecting people with community benefits, healthcare, transportation, mental health support, housing navigation, and employment help. About a quarter of everyone who visits the Center takes part in a West of 50 program.
Who This Is For
LGBTQ+ adults age 50 and older and their allies, in the Denver metro area. As the program says, “all are welcome, none are turned away.”
