About This Group

The LOSS (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) Team of Broward County provides immediate support and ongoing group services for individuals who have lost a loved one to suicide. Operated by Mental Health America of Southeast Florida, the LOSS Team deploys trained volunteers to the scene of a suicide (when requested by law enforcement) to provide immediate comfort and resources to survivors, and offers ongoing support groups for those navigating the complex grief of suicide loss.

What to Expect

The LOSS Team provides two types of support: immediate crisis response at the scene of a suicide death (in partnership with law enforcement), and ongoing peer support groups for suicide loss survivors. Support groups are facilitated by trained volunteers who are themselves survivors of suicide loss. Groups provide a safe, understanding environment where participants can share their grief, learn about the unique aspects of suicide bereavement, and connect with others who have experienced similar losses.

About the LOSS Team

The Broward County LOSS Team is a program of Mental Health America of Southeast Florida, following the nationally recognized LOSS Team model developed to provide immediate and long-term support to suicide loss survivors. Research shows that individuals who receive support shortly after a suicide loss experience better long-term outcomes. The LOSS Team bridges the gap between the immediate aftermath of a suicide death and entry into ongoing support services.

Who This Group Is For

Anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide — family members, friends, coworkers, and community members. The LOSS Team serves survivors at any point after their loss, whether recent or years ago. All ages and relationships to the deceased are welcome.
