About This Group
NAMI Birmingham serves Alabama’s largest metro area with free peer-led support groups, education programs, and community advocacy for individuals and families affected by mental illness. Their Family Support Group meets monthly and provides a welcoming space for loved ones to share their experiences and learn practical strategies for supporting someone with a mental health condition.
What to Expect
The Family Support Group meets the 2nd Monday of each month from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the Hoover Public Library. Sessions are facilitated by trained NAMI volunteers who have personal experience as family members of people with mental illness. The group follows a structured, confidential format that encourages sharing and mutual support. NAMI Birmingham also offers educational courses and community events throughout the year.

NAMI Birmingham is a local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness serving the greater Birmingham area. The chapter provides support groups, NAMI Family-to-Family education courses, and advocacy efforts to improve mental health services in central Alabama.
