About NAMI Utah

NAMI Utah is the state organization of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, providing free peer-led support groups, education programs, and advocacy for individuals and families affected by mental health conditions throughout the Beehive State. Based in Salt Lake City, NAMI Utah coordinates chapters and affiliates across the state to ensure Utahns have access to mental health support and resources close to home.

What Groups Are Offered?

NAMI Utah offers several signature peer-led programs including NAMI Connection Recovery Support Groups for adults living with mental health conditions, NAMI Family Support Groups for caregivers and loved ones, NAMI Peer-to-Peer educational courses, and NAMI Family-to-Family classes. Groups are facilitated by trained volunteers who have personal lived experience with mental illness—either their own or as a family member. Groups meet at locations throughout Utah.

Who Can Join?

NAMI programs are open to anyone affected by mental health conditions. The Connection group welcomes any adult (18+) living with a mental health condition, while Family Support Groups serve parents, siblings, spouses, children, and other loved ones. No diagnosis, referral, or insurance is required to participate in any NAMI program.

What to Expect

NAMI support groups are structured, confidential peer gatherings that typically last 60–90 minutes. Trained facilitators guide discussions where participants share experiences, coping strategies, and encouragement. There is no pressure to speak—you are welcome to listen. First-time attendees are warmly welcomed and the group format is explained at the beginning of each session.

Cost & Confidentiality

All NAMI Utah programs and support groups are completely free of charge. Strict confidentiality is maintained—what is shared in the group stays in the group. No attendance records or personal information are shared outside the organization.
