SMART Recovery Online offers free, science-based virtual support meetings accessible to anyone in Colorado. SMART (Self-Management and Recovery Training) is a secular, evidence-based alternative to 12-step programs that empowers participants to manage their own recovery from addiction using tools grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing. Online meetings make recovery support accessible from the comfort and privacy of your own home, regardless of where you live in Colorado.
What to Expect
Online meetings follow SMART Recovery’s 4-Point Program: (1) Building and maintaining motivation, (2) Coping with urges, (3) Managing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and (4) Living a balanced life. Sessions are facilitated by trained volunteers and typically last 60–90 minutes via Zoom or similar platforms. SMART Recovery does not require belief in a higher power, encourages open discussion and “crosstalk,” and fully supports psychiatric medication and medication-assisted treatment.
How SMART Recovery Differs from 12-Step
SMART Recovery offers a self-empowerment approach rather than a powerlessness model. It is completely secular with no spiritual component. The program is non-linear and self-paced, and participants are encouraged to “graduate” when they feel ready. SMART Recovery can be used alongside 12-step programs or as a standalone approach to recovery.
