The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides free, confidential crisis support for anyone in Missouri experiencing mental health crises, suicidal thoughts, substance use crises, or emotional distress. Available 24/7 by phone, text, or online chat, the 988 Lifeline connects callers with trained crisis counselors who provide immediate support and can connect individuals with local resources. Specialized support is available for veterans (press 1) and Spanish-speaking callers (press 2).
What to Expect
When you call or text 988, you will be connected with a trained crisis counselor who will listen without judgment, help assess your situation, provide emotional support, and work with you to develop a safety plan if needed. Counselors can also connect you with local mental health services and follow-up resources. The conversation is confidential and available in English, Spanish, and over 240 additional languages through translation services. ASL videophone is also available for deaf and hard of hearing callers.
About the 988 Lifeline
The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In Missouri, calls are routed to local crisis centers staffed by trained counselors. The 988 Lifeline replaced the former National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number and became fully operational in July 2022.
