About This Group
We Are Family (WAF) provides peer support groups and programming specifically designed for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults in the Charleston Lowcountry area. Their programs — including SafeSpace, QueerSpace, Q Crew, and ParentSpace — create affirming environments where LGBTQ+ young people can connect with peers, access mentorship, build leadership skills, and find belonging in a supportive community.
What to Expect
WAF programs are age-appropriate and facilitated by trained staff and peer mentors. SafeSpace provides a weekly drop-in for LGBTQ+ youth ages 11–17, QueerSpace serves young adults 18–24, and ParentSpace supports parents and guardians of LGBTQ+ youth. Groups include discussion, social activities, skill-building workshops, and community events in a welcoming and affirming atmosphere.
About We Are Family
We Are Family is a Charleston-based nonprofit that has served LGBTQ+ youth and young adults since 2001. Through peer support, leadership development, community education, and advocacy, WAF works to ensure that every LGBTQ+ young person in the Lowcountry has the support and resources they need to thrive.
