About Overeaters Anonymous – Northern Virginia
The Northern Virginia Intergroup of Overeaters Anonymous (OA) coordinates peer-led meetings throughout the NoVA region for individuals struggling with compulsive eating, food addiction, and related behaviors. OA is a twelve-step fellowship that addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of compulsive eating. Meetings throughout Fairfax, Arlington, Loudoun, and Prince William counties provide accessible recovery support.
What Groups Are Offered?
The Northern Virginia Intergroup hosts multiple weekly OA meetings in formats including open discussion, step study, Big Book study, speaker meetings, and writing workshops. Meetings address all forms of compulsive eating including overeating, under-eating, food obsession, and purging behaviors. Both in-person and virtual meetings are available, providing flexible options for participation.
Who Can Join?
OA is open to anyone with a desire to stop eating compulsively. There are no requirements regarding weight, specific eating behaviors, diagnosis, or background. OA welcomes people at all stages of their relationship with food, from those just beginning to recognize a problem to those maintaining long-term recovery.
Meeting Schedule & Location
Meetings are held throughout the week at churches, community centers, and other venues across Northern Virginia. A complete schedule with times, locations, and formats is available on the NoVA Intergroup website. Virtual meetings provide additional accessibility.

What to Expect
OA meetings are welcoming, peer-led gatherings where members share their experiences with compulsive eating and recovery. Meetings typically last one hour and follow a structured format including readings and sharing time. There is no pressure to speak, and newcomers are welcomed warmly. OA focuses on emotional and spiritual recovery alongside physical recovery from compulsive eating.
Cost & Confidentiality
OA meetings are free. A voluntary collection helps cover expenses. Anonymity is a foundational principle—members use first names only and what is shared in meetings is confidential.
