About YWCA Utah

YWCA Utah is one of the state’s largest providers of domestic violence services, offering emergency shelter, counseling, support groups, legal advocacy, and economic empowerment programs for survivors of intimate partner violence and their children. Based in Salt Lake City, YWCA Utah has been serving the community for over a century, providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive services through licensed clinicians and trained advocates.

What Groups Are Offered?

YWCA Utah offers therapeutic support groups for adult survivors of domestic violence facilitated by licensed counselors, including general DV survivor support groups, trauma processing groups, parenting after violence groups, and children’s therapy groups for young witnesses of domestic violence. Psychoeducational groups cover safety planning, understanding the dynamics of abuse, healthy relationships, and building self-sufficiency. Both shelter-based and community-based groups are available.

Who Can Join?

Support groups and counseling services are available to any survivor of domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking in the Salt Lake City area. You do not need to be a shelter resident to access counseling and support groups. Services are available regardless of gender, age, income, immigration status, or language spoken. Interpretation services are available.

Meeting Schedule & Location

Support groups meet on a regular weekly schedule at YWCA Utah facilities in Salt Lake City. Some groups are held at community partner locations. Specific schedules and locations are provided during intake to ensure participant safety.

What to Expect

When you contact YWCA Utah, an advocate will complete a confidential intake assessment, help develop a safety plan, and connect you with appropriate services including support groups, counseling, legal advocacy, and housing assistance. Groups are led by licensed clinicians in a safe, confidential environment. An atmosphere of empowerment and healing helps survivors rebuild their lives on their own terms.

Cost & Confidentiality

All domestic violence services at YWCA Utah, including support groups, counseling, shelter, and legal advocacy, are provided free of charge. Strict confidentiality is maintained in accordance with state and federal law. Shelter locations are confidential, and all client information is protected.
