About Outright Vermont

Outright Vermont is the state’s leading organization dedicated to building safe, healthy, and supportive environments for LGBTQ+ youth. Based in Burlington, Outright Vermont provides peer-led support groups, mentorship programs, school-based education, and community events for LGBTQ+ young people and their families throughout Vermont. Their programs create spaces where queer and transgender youth can find belonging, develop leadership skills, and access support.

What Groups Are Offered?

Outright Vermont offers weekly LGBTQ+ youth support groups, a Trans Youth Group for transgender and gender-nonconforming youth, a Gender Creative Kids Group for younger children exploring gender identity, a Trans Parents Group for parents and caregivers of transgender youth, and peer mentorship programs pairing LGBTQ+ youth with trained adult mentors. Groups are facilitated by trained peer leaders and staff members with deep knowledge of LGBTQ+ youth issues.

Who Can Join?

Programs serve LGBTQ+ youth and young adults across Vermont. Youth who are questioning their sexual orientation or gender identity are also welcome. The Trans Parents Group is open to parents, guardians, and family members of transgender and gender-diverse young people. No registration fee or membership is required for most programs.

Meeting Schedule & Location

Weekly groups meet at Outright Vermont’s Burlington location and at partner sites around the state. Virtual options are available for youth in rural areas who cannot attend in person. A current schedule of groups and events is available on the Outright Vermont website.

What to Expect

Outright Vermont provides warm, affirming spaces where LGBTQ+ youth can be themselves. Groups are peer-facilitated with adult staff support, and focus on community building, sharing experiences, and mutual support. Activities range from structured discussions to creative projects and social events. New participants are welcomed and can engage at whatever level feels comfortable. The organization celebrates the diversity within the LGBTQ+ community.

Cost & Confidentiality

All Outright Vermont programs and support groups are free of charge. The organization maintains strict confidentiality protections for all participants. Youth identities and attendance information are not shared with family members or others without the young person’s explicit consent.
