About Richmond Vet Center
The Richmond Vet Center is a community-based counseling center operated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, providing readjustment counseling and outreach services to eligible veterans, active duty service members, and their families. Vet Centers offer a confidential, non-medical environment where veterans can receive individual and group counseling for combat-related PTSD, military sexual trauma, and the challenges of transitioning from military to civilian life.
What Groups Are Offered?
The Richmond Vet Center offers group counseling for combat veterans, PTSD processing groups, military sexual trauma (MST) support groups, bereavement groups for families of fallen service members, and readjustment and transition groups. Groups are facilitated by licensed counselors, many of whom are veterans themselves. Individual counseling, couples and family counseling, and referrals to additional VA and community resources are also provided.
Who Can Join?
Services are available to veterans who served in combat zones, veterans who experienced military sexual trauma, and active duty service members including National Guard and Reserve. Family members may also receive services. You do not need to be enrolled in VA healthcare, and there is no service-connected disability rating requirement.
Meeting Schedule & Location
The Vet Center is located in Richmond and offers services during regular business hours with some evening availability. Group counseling sessions meet on regular weekly schedules. Walk-ins are welcome.

What to Expect
Vet Centers are intentionally separate from VA medical centers to provide a more personal, community-based experience. Counselors understand military culture and the unique challenges of service. Group sessions provide a space where veterans can share with others who have had similar experiences. Records are kept separate from VA medical records without your consent, providing an additional layer of privacy.
